    Sneakers? Don’t ask the missus!

    By SneakerFreak | November 12, 2008

The MissusTHEY say opposites attract and I have to say it’s certainly true for yours truly.

While me and Mrs Sneakerfreak may have the same taste in music, although I did find Dido, Will Young and Elton John lurking in her CD collection when we met, the same can’t be said for clothes and footwear.

While I kind of go for the B Boy indie kid kinda look, the missus does like her glamour, even though back in her student days, a long time ago, she did prefer the archetypal Docs and tie dye look and was often found quaffing Newkey Brown propping up the student union bar, even though by her own admission she hated the stuff (only drank it to look the part, I don’t know!).

Nowadays as a respectable primary teacher, Mrs Sneakerfreak prefers high heels, frilly frocks, sparkly things and a taste for cockertails.

But while Sneakerfreak himself likes the odd Cosmo or two, he could never bring himself to don the white shirt, black pants and shiny shoes of the Manchester Deansgate crowd, although he has been known to rock a khaki linen suit in the summer, It’s the cool geography teacher look, don’t you know!

Now I know many birds these days also like their trainers, Converse do their Chucks in a whole range of pastel girlie colours (please ladies no hate mail, I’m being ironic), but Mrs Sneakerfreak won’t be seen dead in anything resembling sports shoes.

However, girls if you’re not like the missus and want to know what’s on offer in the ladies trainer department, most of the big name players are offering up women’s versions of men’s sneaks.

For fans of the chunky side of the tracks, Nike have got some nice hi-top Air Morgan 6.0s in their stable in a rather nice grey, white and pink colourway.

Elsewhere on the block, Adidas has some great Superstars on offer in a great red fabric check, right on the fashion money.

If you’re a bit of a skater chick, Etnies have come up with a real killer with their Lo Pro Baller in an awesome (oh no I’ve started sounding like Avril Laveen) purple plaid, while Vans have come up with their Wellesley hit top in a rather different graphic /graffiti side print.
